PRODUCT SPEC:

Large handwoven organic raw cotton shawl / throw base called ‘Malkha’ in it’s purest form, the cotton yarn goes through fewer processes than the conventional cotton. The fabric is lightweight and undyed, intricately hand embroidered in pure silk thread a time honoured Phulkari motif.

THE STORY:

Far East Weavers’ has been able to work with the ladies at Phulkari Mehla Self Help Group who is a large group of talented local craftswomen who work as a unit to empower and support rural girls and women become independent by taking the initiative on starting new ventures, so grateful to be able to work with the ladies through The Nabha Foundation who provide essential resources such as education, healthcare, livelihood, sanitation and heritage conservation in various hot spots throughout India. Working on this project with them has been truly wonderful.

THE VISION:

My passion as an individual and as an avid lover of textiles & heritage art has been to connect with people, culture, traditions and listen to the story of their own journeys. I aim to carry my ethics towards Far East Weavers as a founder so I can carry on voicing their stories across various platforms, currently most of Far East Weavers’ profits go right back into working with artisans via trusted organisations that empower SHG and charities who conserve heritage and empower local communities throughout India and beyond.

CARE SUGGESTIONS:

Handwash separately in lukewarm water using a gentle liquid detergent. Let it soak for up to 5 mins without agitation. Slowly press out any water, do not twist. Repeat if necessary. Dry in the shade, away from heat and pets. Iron on the back at medium heat.

As the pandemic evolves, I am taking all necessary precautions in accordance with the government’s guidelines. As we all know, advice is changing daily so I will continue to monitor the situation and update further as needed.
